Stories of agricultural research for development

Partners in research for development is the quarterly magazine of the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR). It captures stories of agricultural research for development and showcases the range of work that ACIAR supports across Asia, Africa and the Pacific region.

In 2019, Currie began its work with ACIAR to manage production of Partners. Our mandate was to tell stories about the impact of ACIAR research and to share knowledge among ACIAR partners. Stories must reflect the diversity of ACIAR research across different agricultural sectors and countries.

Currie manages production of Partners, which is issued quarterly. We consult with ACIAR to develop a story plan for the magazine and deliver on it.

We work with our network of specialist writers who bring the stories to life. They have expertise in writing about agriculture, science, capacity building, policy, international development and the environment. Our aim is to create Partners articles that are interesting, enjoyable and informative.

As stories progress, we work with ACIAR to ensure all articles meet their quality standards and support their strategic goals.

Partners has been produced on time, every time by Currie and continues to deliver on agreed story plans. It features news and long-form articles captured through interviews with people from around the world. It covers all agricultural sectors from forestry and fisheries to climate change and crops, and beyond.

We always seek and respond to ACIAR feedback. This ensures the magazine meets changing needs and takes advantage of new opportunities. It is now also produced in digital format online by ACIAR.

To support production of the magazine, we developed the Partners editorial policy. We also produced a benchmark report to allow performance to be quantified. By reviewing subscriber management, we identified ways to better reach the magazine’s target audience. And we helped to update the subscriber database.
