First 'living' building

With a gust of wind, the natural ventilation system of the Global Change Institute’s (GCI) new headquarters kicked in, breathing life into the opening of this inspirational ‘living building’ in August.

Currie helped GCI successfully showcase the new workspace to the media attracting coverage across TVradioprint and online.

The building will generate more power than it will consume, is cooled by flushing chilled recycled water through exposed floor panels and discharges warm air through its thermal chimney.

It’s the latest example of The University of Queensland’s commitment to operating more sustainably and is the ideal home for the GCI’s game-changing research into clean energy, healthy oceans, food security and climate change.
